This is quick service even McDonald’s would be proud of. The National Kidney Foundation has a new chairman cum CEO less than 24 hours after the resignation of the disgraced chief TT Durai.
The Singapore government with its proverbial efficiency found a new man to head the charity even before the public had a full day to speculate who would be the best man for the job.
There can be no question, however, that the right man has been found. Gerard Ee, as president of the National Council of Social Service, knows all about charities. And no gold-plated taps have yet been revealed in his closet. It was such luxuries which proved to be the undoing of Durai. Singaporeans balked at a high-living charity chief.
The local bloggers who had been raging and ranting against Durai will be happy today for another reason though. The first Singapore bloggers’ convention is being held today. And this promises to be a meeting of the big kahunas. Singapore may be just a little speck on the map, but in the blogosphere apparently it is very big. There will be several Best Asian Blog-gers — title winners and nominees — at the event, Bloggers.SG 2005. And they are all locals.
Singapore wants to excel in every field. It even has a large blog-reading public loyally following the local bloggers. And it’s not just native/ local admiration. I myself like Mr Brown.
Today, however, I will be following the Harry Potter blog on the Guardian. The launch of a new Potter adventure must be a red-letter day.
