Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley

I just found out that today is the birthday of Carl Perkins (April 9, 1932 – January 19, 1998). So here he is singing his biggest hit, Blue Suede Shoes, and That’s Alright Mama.

Incidentally, both the songs were also recorded by Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977).

Perkins and Presley both got their start at Sun Records run by Sam Phillips. Perkins had his first big hit with Blue Suede Shoes in 1956, the same year Presley became a superstar with chartbusters like Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog, Don’t Be Cruel and Love Me Tender .

Finally, here’s one more song recorded by both Perkins and Presley:  Mean Woman Blues.
