Singapore’s first individual Olympic medal in 52 years

Feng Tianwei

Feng Tianwei

She helped Singapore win the silver in the women’s table tennis team event in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and now Feng Tianwei has won the bronze in the 2012 London Olympics. Hurrah! This is Singapore’s first individual Olympic medal in 52 years. Feng is the only Singaporean to win an individual medal besides weightlifter Tan Howe Liang, who took silver at the 1960 Rome Games. Congratulations! This is Singapore’s third Olympic medal. Singapore first took part in the Olympic Games when they were last held in London, in 1948. With the exception of Moscow 1980, Singaporeans have competed at every Olympic Games since then, although in 1964 they competed with Malaysia and North Borneo at the Tokyo Games.
