The by-election in Hougang, an opposition-held ward in Singapore, seems to have generated a festive mood in some quarters from the pictures I am seeing on Twitter. The supporters of the opposition Workers Party, which has held the seat since 1991, seem to be celebrating though the election results are not out as yet. Counting is going on. The by-election became necessary after Hougang’s former MP Yaw Shin Leong was xpelled from the Workers Party following an extramarital affair with a party member. Desmond Choo of the People’s Action Party, whom Yaw defeated in the election last year, is running this time against Png Eng Huat of the Workers Party. Here are some pictures I found on Twitter, Storified.
