Singapore government expenditure on ministers and parliamentary secretaries will go up by nearly 9 per cent this year, with the economy expected to grow by 4.5 per cent to 6.5 per cent, after a smaller increase last year, when the economy shrank 2 per cent.
The Today newspaper reported: Salaries for political appointments — ministers, ministers of state and parliamentary secretaries — are estimated to be S$58.28 million, or 8.8 per cent higher than last year.
Those figures are from 2010 budget expenditure estimates, which show the outlay on political appointments. Today spells out who they are.
Singapore has a 21-member Cabinet, according to the Cabinet website. Wikipedia's Government of Singapore page lists five senior ministers of state, four ministers of state, four senior parliamentary secretaries and two parliamentary secretaries. So the ministers, ministers of state and parliamentary secretaries number 36 in all.
The budget documents show expenditure on political appointments was S$53.56 million last year, up from S$50.03 million in 2008, when the economy grew by 1.4 per cent, according to the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Though the expenditure increased last year, it was still less than the initial estimate of S$61.4 million.

Why are your charts drawn in this way?
Actual & Estimated Expenditure are not drawn separately, despite being separate numbers.
The numbers are also NOT drawn against the same horizontal axis, which makes it difficult to compare the data head-to-head.
