Elvis Presley would have been celebrating his 74th birthday today, just imagine! Born on January 8, 1935, he was only 42 years old when he died on August 16, 1977. But when we think of him, more youthful images spring to mind – of Elvis in his heyday.
He was only 19 when he recorded That’s All Right Mama in 1954 and 21 years old when he scored his first US chart topper, Heartbreak Hotel, in 1956. And he kept his youthful good looks till well into his marriage with Priscilla on May 1, 1967.
But the reason he is still the King — the Rolling Stone recently named him the third greatest singer of all time, after Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles — is his fabulous voice. Here is Elvis at the top of his form, in 1968.
