A problem with My Yahoo!

Help me, please. Does anyone use My Yahoo as the home page? I have for a long time, but now it is causing problems. If I leave it open and jump to another page using the bookmarks or clicking on the email link or any of the news items, after a while this message pops up on my screen:

"A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort this script?"

I click on Yes, and the pages close. I have no idea which script is the culprit. The same problem crops up sometimes on Firefox too.

It is frustrating because I love My Yahoo. It can contain everything from email to weather reports and is a wonderful news aggregator. On this one page I can have news from around the world from any number of sources, from news agencies to newspapers and blogs.

News feeds can be added to other web pages too such as My MSN and a personalised Google Search page. But MSN is limited and news feeds are less easy to add to Google Search than to My Yahoo. One has to know the URL of the news feeds to add them to the personalised Google Search page. They can be added to My Yahoo by simply clicking on the Add Content box. New sources can be discovered through Inside Yahoo. Google is great for searching, but when it comes to delivering news, I like My Yahoo. It has been doing this much longer, by linking to Reuters and AP and AFP and other news media.

Earlier, My Yahoo used to allow only a limited number of features on each page, but that restriction seems to have been lifted — a warning no longer pops up about having too many items on the page. So what could be causing the problem? The banner ads? I have no idea.

I want a home page which gives me access to mail and news, so Google News and Bloglines are out. I have been looking at some of the new Ajax-based "start pages" which can contain news and mail and bookmarks like My Yahoo, My MSN and personalised Google Search, but none of them are as easy to add content to as My Yahoo. Unfortunately, I can’t use it as my home page any more because of a script problem. I wish someone could help me fix it. I went to Yahoo Help and filed a feeback form. The response was prompt and useless.

"Hello, Thank you for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care. Thank you for your inquiry about Yahoo! Although you have reached a support area of Yahoo!, you will need to contact the Yahoo! Customer Care Team through one of our online help pages."

It then listed other help pages dealing with things like email and registration. How helpful!
