One-Line Bio

I am Abhijit, a navel-gazing Indian gone to the blogs.

Biography

I am an Indian in Singapore. I miss my wife, who teaches at a college in Kolkata, India, and my son, an undergraduate at a liberal arts college in the US.

Interests

I love reading mysteries and thrillers. I enjoy listening to the BBC and good old rock'n' roll. The New York Times is my favourite newspaper, followed by the Guardian. PG Wodehouse is my favourite writer. Vikram Seth and Salman Rushdie are my favourite contemporary writers. I also like anything by Jan Morris. And I loved reading Tom Wolfe, the journalist, not the novelist, in his younger days. Dylan Thomas, TS Eliot, WB Yeats, WH Auden and Philip Larkin are among the poets I like. Three other writers I greatly admire: Rudyard Kipling, George Orwell and Graham Greene. My favourite mystery and thriller writers? Raymond Chandler, John Le Carre, Len Deighton, Ian Rankin. I also used to love reading Michael Innes and Dorothy Sayers, but haven't read them for a long time. When it comes to music, I am a Bob Dylan fan, as evident from the title of my blog. I also love the Beatles, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beach Boys and the Grateful Dead.
